Sounding language : A researh of how four Nordic languages affect the choir sound (engelsk)
Abstract [en]
This master thesis examins how Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Icelandic affects the choir sounds. I chose four different psalms (one from each country) and rehearsed with three different ensembles to examine the factors: legato/staccato, tempo, intonation, phrasing and balance. While it may not be possible to conclude anything, I did find these tendencies:- Legato/staccato: There was a tendency to drop the legato in Danish and Norwegian - Phrasing: The mst singers sang with a better phrasing the second time, but there was a tendency to hesitate more when singing in Danish and Norweigan.- Balance: It was connected to the individual singer's comfort with the language.- Intonation: There was a tendency between vowels/diphtongs and it seemed hardere in Danish and Icelandic.- Tempo: The tempo was connected to the phrasing.
