Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is, by trying different methods for composing music, to explore which approaches that facilitate my composition process. The composition methods used in this project are collected through interviews with three professional musicians. Another aim of the study is to explore if and how composing music strengthens me as a musician. I present previous research on the relationship between music composition and musicianship and how they are interrelated. I also present how Bandura’s theory of selfefficacy can be used in music performance and explore how my self-efficacy is affected by an increased focus on music composition. The study results in six songs, of which five are presented here. I reflect on the different composition methods and conclude that they all facilitate my composition process in different ways, in large depending on where in the process I apply them. I also reflect on how an increased focus on music composition strengthens me as a musician, and I come to the conclusion that music composition increases my self-efficacy belief as a musician.
