This thesis is a study of the first movement of the Trombone Concerto (1966)by Nino Rota. The aim of the study was to find out the best way to practice this piece of music as a trombonist. At first, I searched information on Nino Rota. I then created a musical analysis of the first movement of theConcerto. A deeper understanding of the structure of any piece is important in the learning process, as well as exploring its harmonic and melodic features. I have studied literature which helps me to understand psychological aspects of practising and learning including Playing from the Core Method (Soiton ydin, 2016) by Tommi Hyytinen and many articles on internet by musicians and sportsmen. After writing this it has been easier to practice the concerto of Nino Rota and I have also found it easier to learn new pieces or orchestra/chamber music parts.
