The record production made in Colombia during the boom of danceabletropical music between the 1960s and the 1970s had a prominenttranscendence in the historical development of the Colombian musicindustry. On the other hand, the phenomenon of tropical urban music oftoday is similar to that of more than 40 years ago, considering that the twomoments take place mostly in the city of Medellín, and are more related tosociocultural situations than to the purely musicological ones. Thus, thispaper aims to show the points of coincidence of both eras from the study oftheir record productions versus the commercial and socioculturalcircumstances of these genres
