Abstract [en]

In this text, I reflect on the conductor's role in Swedish choir life today. I start from the thesis that the conductor fulfills an extremely important function in choirs, orchestras and ensembles. This against a historical background where I describe the conductor as a musical leader and how its role and function has varied and developed. The text deals with both orchestral conducting and choral conducting, but the focus of the survey is on the chorister's perspective and the choristers' perception of the conductor's function and significance. I set their perception against my own thoughts about what role the conductor has and what purposes it can serve in today's choir life. The work is based on qualitative interviews and my own experiences.

Under mitt sista läsår på kandidatprogrammet i kördirigering vid Kungl. Musikhögskolan i Stockholm, läsåret 2020/2021, har jag deltagit i fyra konsertproduktioner som dirigent, vilka ligger till grund för denna skriftliga reflektion. De fyra konserterna har föregåtts av fyra repetitioner samt ett genrep och sedan konsert. Det är KMH:s vokalensemble som fungerat som övningskör och som också framfört konserten under min ledning. 

I den första produktionen, september 2020, instuderade och dirigerade jagFolke Rabe - To Love, satserna 6 och 7.I den andra, december 2020 (julkonsert), Judith Weir - Illuminare, Jerusalem. I den tredje produktionen, februari 2021 instuderade och dirigerade jag Ludvig Norman - Motett (op. 50) och i den fjärde produktionen har jag instuderat Johannes Brahms - Lieder und Romanzen (Op. 93a), 6 satser. Denna konsert utgör min examenskonsert och framförs den 3 juni 2021.
