Insight into L'anello di Aurora by Jouni Kaipainen
Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Department of Classical Music.
2024 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

Jouni Kaipainen (1956-2015) was a Finnish composer, journalist and writer. He is to be considered one of the most successful composers of his generation in Finland. Unfortunately, he passed away on the 23rd of November 2015 of liver cancer only at the age of 58.

In this work I will be exploring his piece L’anello di Aurora op. 34 (1988) for solo violin. Firstly, I will write about Jouni Kaipainen and then get into the analysis of the piece as well as different technical aspects of it. Lastly, I will be sharing thoughts on this process of studying the piece, especially from the point of view that I could not listen to a recording of it in any point of the process, since there were no available.
