Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master of Fine Arts (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE credits
This thesis explores various piano techniques utilized across Europe,
providing a comprehensive analysis of their distinct methods and
pedagogical approaches. By examining these diverse techniques, I aim to
identify the elements that have been most beneficial to my personal
development as a pianist. Through comparative analysis and personal
reflection, the study highlights the significance of tailored learning in
mastering the piano. The conclusions drawn emphasize that aspiring pianists
should seek out and adopt the techniques that best suit their individual needs
and aspirations. The pursuit of personalized piano and keyboard techniques
is essential for achieving proficiency and artistic fulfillment.
This thesis starts from a scientific conception of what happens to our
muscles when we play, because we are nothing else then athletes, and we
need to treat our practice as a work out session. Then we need to remember
that we have to express our emotions through the infinite piano repertoire,
and to do that we have to remember Brugnoli’s words about what is the
“cantabile” and how to make a silent keyboard sing with his own voice.
Either you are a teacher or a student in search of answers I hope this text can
give you some creative ideas to develop your daily practice and what can
work well for you and use it for the future.
As you could hear from my concert my technique is not the best you could
find but surely is a work I have done the last twenty years and my research
approach is not finished yet, so that is my best suggestion, never feel to be
done with piano, it gives you always something new.
