Abstract [en]

The primary objective of this study is to examine the pedagogical methodologies employed by educators in the instruction of music to children aged 6 and 7, in this case Carl Orff and Suzuki methods. The research focused on two educational institutions situated in Sweden, each characterized by unique institutional background. Two participants were chosen for this research: two music instructors working with small groups (eight children in each), one of whom has a higher education degree in music, while the other is equipped with a pedagogical qualification specifically tailored for elementary school education. Furthermore, the study involved the direct observation of two music lessons and the subsequent administration of semi-structured interviews with both educators. It is essential to note that a qualitative research paradigm guided the overall framework of this investigation, and the thematic analysis was applied. The primary objective of The Municipal Music and Arts school is the musical and aesthetic development of children; accordingly, the teacher selected the Suzuki method as an effective way to achieve this goal. In contrast, the main focus of The Russian-Ukrainian school is children's language development, with music serving as a tool to support this process, and the implementation of the Orff method appears to be a suitable choice. The result of the research implies that both Carl Orff and Suzuki methods have a positive impact on music education provided to young children.
