Detta konstnärliga kandidatexamensarbete behandlar den första etappen av projektet 1000 kyrkor, 1000 psalmer, ett långsiktigt initiativ med målet att dokumentera 1000 kyrkor runtom i Sverige. Uppsatsen baseras specifikt på det material som har producerats under denna inledande fas, där 100 kyrkor har besökts, filmats och dokumenterats. Det är således denna avgränsade del av projektet som ligger till grund för examensarbetet. Syftet med projektet är att lyfta fram de svenska kyrkornas betydelse som en central del av det svenska kulturarvet, att väcka nyfikenhet för orgeln som instrument samt att guida människor genom vår rika psalmskatt. Projektet är öppet för alla och publiceras för att tillgängliggöra kulturarvet via digitala plattformar, med särskilt fokus på barn, ungdomar, äldre och personer med funktionsvariation. Projektet har fått uppmärksamhet i media, bland annat i Sveriges Television (SVT), Sveriges Radio (SR) samt i tidskrifter såsom Dagen, Kyrkans Tidning och Kotimaa (Finland). Arbetet är metodologiskt uppdelat i tre delar som var och en belyser olika aspekter av projektet. De tre delarna; kyrka, psalm och kyrkomusik(er) utgör en treenighet som speglar både den historiska och samtida betydelsen av kyrkomusik. Studien och projektet bidrar till ökad förståelse för hur exteriör, interiör och orgeln tillsammans skapar helhetsupplevelsen av kyrkan.

This artistic bachelor’s thesis addresses the first phase of the project 1000 Churches, 1000 Hymns, a long-term initiative with the goal of documenting 1,000 churches throughout Sweden. The thesis is specifically based on the material produced during this initial phase, in which 100 churches have been visited, filmed, and documented. It is therefore this delimited part of the project that forms the foundation of the thesis. The aim of the project is to highlight the significance of Swedish churches as a central part of the Swedish cultural heritage, to inspire curiosity about the organ as an instrument, and to guide people into a deeper understanding of our rich hymn tradition. The project is open to everyone and is published to make cultural heritage accessible through digital platforms, with a particular focus on children, young people, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. The project has received media attention, including the Swedish Television (SVT), Swedish Radio (SR), as well as in publications such as Dagen, Kyrkans Tidning, and Kotimaa (Finland). The thesis is structured in three parts, each illuminating different aspects of the project. The three components; church, hymn, and church music(ian) form a unity that reflects both the historical and contemporary significance of church music. The study and project contribute to an increased understanding as to how the exterior, interior and the organ jointly create holistic experience of the church.
