This thesis aims to explore the combination of the improvised singing voice with live electronics. Focus points are vocal techniques for blending the voice with electronic elements, deep focus during a solo performance and ways to create and perform music with Ableton Live. The questions asked in this thesis regard how the voice is affected by performing with electronic sounds, how the experience of performance changes when in a solo context, as well as how the ability to focus is affected by performing a concert in a suite style. In this thesis five compositions have been created using Ableton Live. These compositions have also been paired with written lyrics. To perform the music in a live context, the midi-instrument “Midimix” from Akai is used, with its knobs routed to different sound effects in Ableton. This project resulted in a concert where a personal new approach to vocal expression and phrasing was developed.
