This master thesis is a Minor Field Study in Mumbai (Bombay), India on creative storytelling in film music and music production and how to colour the mind with music. The purpose with this thesis is to get a new and deepened knowledge about creative storytelling in film music, music production in another context, country (India) and culture than my own (Sweden). Moreover, it is also to collaborate with other people, learn from other musicians and producers in Mumbai. The thesis explores diverse ways of how to tell stories with the music and how the music can affect the audience. The methodological aspects that are used in the creative process has been to try new things, push boundaries and to not be afraid of failure. With that in mind the method was to compose and produce own music and with collaborations in India. Interviews were also conducted in Mumbai with music producers, musicians, composers and creators about their creative process and expressions in film music and music production. The results are the music productions of own songs, collaborations and interviews on how a context can affect the creative process. With this thesis I hope to evoke curiosity for exploring new things and to inspire composers, songwriters, musicians and music producers out of their musical comfort zone. This master thesis is a part of the Minor Field Study (MFS) scholarship program administrated by the Swedish Council for Higher Education and financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, Sida. The scholarship program is for field studies in developing countries.
