Abstract [en]
This independent artistic project explores the orchestral sound of Arne Domnérus ensemble through an analysis of arrangements by three central figures: Georg Riedel, Bengt Hallberg, and Jan Johansson. By studying original sheet music, transcriptions, and applying identified arranging techniques such as block harmonization, line-writing, and quartal harmony, the project seeks to understand and recreate the musical language characteristic of Domnérus orchestra. The practical outcome consists of five newly arranged pieces performed in a concert, integrating stylistic elements from the analyzed arrangers while maintaining a personal artistic voice. The study highlights the balance between tradition and innovation within Swedish jazz and reflects on the impact of arrangement choices on improvisation and ensemble sound.
