Abstract [en]
In this thesis I studied the comping style of Art Taylor, a renowned jazz drummer known for his rhythmic innovation and his influence on bebop. Through transcribing and analysing his playing, I identified key rhythmic patterns, such as his use of triplets and dynamic phrasing, and worked to incorporate these elements into my own drumming. This process included detailed transcription, focused practice and creative experimentation. The project culminated in a concert where I applied Art Taylor-inspired techniques in new musical contexts. This study deepened my understanding of Taylor’s artistry and enhanced my own approach to jazz drumming, demonstrating the power of transcription and analysis.
