Abstract [en]
This project explores sonification as a compositional tool through two contrasting versions of the piece Ashes to Ashes and the piece Dust to Dust, centered on the theme of death and bodily decomposition. The first version employs an abstract, interpretative approach to sonification, translating schematic information about decomposition into artistic choices. The second version uses algorithmic composition driven by datasets, where data modulates both the sound material and its spatialization. The comparison reveals key differences in compositional approaches. The project also highlights that strict adherence to data does not necessarily produce results that are immediately perceptible or intuitive to the listener. The third piece is the result of implementing the knowldege aquired from the first two experiments in a less strict way.
