In this thesis I explore the relationship between the cello suites by Johann Sebastian Bach(specifically focusing on the sarabande of the fourth suite, BWV 1010) and the dances onwhich the music is based. Through studying literature relating to the suites (both modernsources as well as contemporary to the suites), the score, as well as videos with modernreconstructions of the dances, I deepened my understanding of the sarabande as a musicalform, and thus felt my interpretation of the movement become more complete.

I detta arbete har jag fördjupat mig i Johann Sebastian Bachs fjärde cellosvit (BWV 1010) –specifikt fjärde satsen, sarabanden. Detta arbete syftade till att undersöka sambandet mellanden dansform som satsen bygger på och den musikaliska gestiken i satsen. Genom studier avskrifter (både samtida med cellosviten och nutida), notbilden samt videoklipp som visarmoderna rekonstruktioner av dansen, ökade jag min förståelse av sarabanden som musikaliskform vilket ledde till en mer fullvärdig tolkning av stycket.
