Trombonen, centralt i storband: ett utforskande arbete om trombonens roll och potential i storbandsarrangering

Abstract [en]

This project explores the role of the trombone in big band arrangements, with a particular focus on giving the trombone a more prominent role, both as a solo instrument and as a whole section. The aim is to investigate how to write for the trombone in less conventional ways, more as a leading voice in the big band. The project discusses the technical challenges and creative freedoms encountered when arranging for trombone, as well as the impact of these changes on the overall sound of the big band. The experiences of balancing multiple roles as musician, arranger and bandleader are also explored. This project highlights the importance of how careful arrangements can bring new dimensions to the instrument’s sound, ultimately contributing to a richer and more dynamic big band ensemble. The findings demonstrate how these adjustments influence both the overall balance of the band and the effectiveness of the trombone in a more central role within the larger ensemble.
