Träning och Memorering: Träningens inverkan på förmågan att memorera musik

Abstract [en]

This independent project explores how two different forms of physical training – low –intensity cardiovascular exercise and strength training – affect my ability to memorize and practice classical piano repertoire. The study was conducted as a self-observaion over a ten-day period, where each training session was followed by a structured piano practice session. Two pieces of contrasting character were used: Nuages Gris by Franz Liszt and Heimweh by Edvard Grieg. Data was collected through a reflective journal, in which I documented levels of concentration, memory performance, and musical presence immediately after each practice session. The aim was to investigate which type of training best supports learning, focus, and sustainable artistic work. The study found that both training forms had positive effects, though in different ways. Cardiovascular exercise was easier to integrate into daily routines and provided a more stable mental presence, while strength training sometimes enhanced physical awareness but required longer recovery. The results suggests that a balanced combination of physical and cardiovascular training can support sustainable and focused music practice, although it proves critical as to when you perform these different ways of exercise. The study also highlights the importance of adapting physical activity to the individuals needs and the specific character of the musical repertoire.
