Musikproduktionens tillgänglighet i modern tid har lett till en introduktion av ämnet musikproduktion i grundskola, gymnasiet samt i högre utbildning. Syftet med detta arbete är att undersöka termerna musikproducent och musikproduktion samt kursmålen i gymnasiekurserna musikproduktion 1 och musikproduktion 2. Frågeställningen besvaras genom kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer med fem yrkesverksamma musikproduktionslärare där termerna utforskas och kursmålens relevans diskuteras. Intervjuerna pekar på att musikproduktion och musikproducent är två vida termer som är kontextuella samt komplexa. Simplifierat kan musikproduktion definieras som en förädling av låten där musikproducentens jobb är att realisera den musikaliska visionen och göra den bästa produkten inom deadline och budget. Relevansen av kursmålen bedömdes vara heltäckande men något diffusa vilket gav utrymme för tolkning. Hantering av el samt liveljud ansågs vara de minst relevanta kursmålen då dessa var utdaterade eller orelaterade till musikproduktionens praxis, medan kursmål relaterade till musikbranschen samt samarbeten i musikaliska produktioner ansågs vara av högre relevans. Vidare ansåg informanterna att kursmålen innehöll för lite skapande och utveckling av musikaliskt uttryck vilket informanterna menade är en viktig del av jobbet som musikproducent. 

The availability of music production in modern times have resulted in an introduction of the subject in elementary school, secondary school and in higher education. The purpose of this study is to investigate the terms music producer and music production as well as the syllabus for the secondary school courses musikproduktion 1 and musikproduktion 2. The questions in this study are answered through qualitative semi-structured interviews with five music production teachers where the terms are explored, and the syllabus relevancy is discussed. The interviews show that the terms music production and music producer are two vivid terms which are contextual and complex. The simplistic version is that music production can be defined as a refinement of the song whereas the music producers’ job is to realize the musical vision and make the best product within budget and deadline. The relevancy of the syllabus was deemed comprehensive yet somewhat diffuse which gave room for interpretation. The syllabus regarding electricity and live sound were deemed lesser relevant due to being outdated or unrelated to the practice of music production, whilst the syllabus regarding the music business and collaboration in music production were deemed of higher relevance. Moreover, the syllabus was deemed as not containing enough creation or development of musical expression which the informants deemed an important part of the profession of a music producer.
