Abstract [en]

This study explores innovative strategies in music mixing, emphasising authenticity and the role of artificial intelligence (AI). While modern digital audio workstations support complex projects with numerous tracks, editing and finalising mixes can be quite challenging. To address these issues, the research investigates ways to enhance critical listening, judgment, and creativity for both professionals and enthusiasts. It examines three key mixing techniques: 1) emphatic order, which arranges musical elements based on their importance to the listener; 2) micro-timing adjustments inspired by the Haas effect and the law of the first wavefront, which influence spatial perception and groove; and 3) an approach inspired by ancient Greek virtues, viewing mixing as a balance of justice, moderation, and courage. These practical insights are combined with a theoretical analysis of authenticity—both internal and external—and its historical and musicological contexts. The study also considers how AI might support or challenge these methods, emphasising that technology should augment, not replace, human creativity. Overall, the findings demonstrate that listener-centred approaches, reflection, and systematic workflows are essential for innovative music mixing, and further research is needed to integrate AI in ways that preserve authenticity and artistic integrity.
