I detta arbete har jag undersökt Maurice Ravels fiolverk Tzigane. Jag har fördjupat mina kunskaper om verkets ursprung, romska influenser samt uppförandepraxis. Jag upptäckte att det i musik med romska influenser är viktigt att tänka på kulturell appropriering.

Mitt syfte var att hitta användbara metoder för att skapa en motiverad och övertygande tolkning av stycket. Till slut testade jag tre olika metoder, analyserade musiken och tillämpade metoderna i min övningsprocess. Jag kände att det mest effektiva var att spela in sitt eget spel och fokusera på ett fåtal aspekter i taget.

In this thesis, I examined Maurice Ravel’s violin piece Tzigane. I deepened my knowledge of the piece’s origins, Romani influences, and performance practice. I discovered that when working with music influenced by Romani culture, it is important to consider cultural appropriation and understand the musical origin.

My aim was to find useful methods for creating a motivated and convincing interpretation of the piece. In the end, I came up with three different methods, analyzed the music, and applied the methods in my practice process. I found that the most effective approach was to record my own playing and focus on smaller aspects one at a time.
